A conversation with the women and men involved in our foundation: Sean Ramsden

A conversation with the women and men involved in our foundation.

Today we introduce you to Sean Ramsden, Director of Portfolio Services at Thermo Fisher Scientific.

AC: Can you describe your professional background?

SR :  I’ve spent the majority of my career in pharmaceutical manufacturing.  My current employer, Thermo Fisher Scientific, is a world leader in contract manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, where our business is manufacturing high quality pharmaceutical products on behalf of our customers.  We have the privilege to work with many of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies.  In my role, I work with customers to assess and solve their manufacturing challenges, and partner with them to implement long term solutions that allow uninterrupted supply of life saving medications to patients in need.

AC: What are the professional accomplishments you are most proud of?

SR : I’ve been extremely fortunate in my professional career to have had the opportunity to lead the manufacturing and commercialization of several life changing/saving therapies.  I will never forget the first project I worked on, where we were working to launch a novel therapy for patients with kidney disease.  The proudest moment of my career came at the end of that project, watching the first delivery truck pull away with the first commercially approved cartons of product.  In total, we had spent nearly two years working to bring this therapy to patients in need.

AC: Tell us about your involvement with Ataxia Canada

SR : I came to learn about Ataxia through my wife’s family, where multiple members of her family, including her father, suffered and died from Ataxia (SCA2).  I recently joined the board of Ataxia Canada, with the intent to support the fantastic work the organization has done for patient advocacy and research.  With my background in the pharmaceutical industry, I hope to continue Ataxia Canada’s drive for a cure, while continuing to support those currently living with Ataxia.

AC: What would you like to accomplish with Ataxia Canada?

SR : With my background in the pharmaceutical industry, I hope to continue Ataxia Canada’s drive for a cure by connecting our work with industry partners, while also continuing to support those currently living with Ataxia
