Spring is here!

We are full of projects for our various events: the Machu Picchu challenge, the Défi Ataxie cycling event , the various regional editions of the Walk to Fight Familial Ataxias, etc. Through these activities, we hope to reach a large number of participants across Quebec and Canada and raise the funds we need to fulfill our mission. We invite you to join us and to give to Ataxia Canada – Fondation Claude St-Jean.

There is news on the research front. Dr. Jacques P. Tremblay’s lab, in Quebec City, is considering trials of a naturally occurring antioxidant found in the human body, if we can get the funding. A great opportunity to contribute to clinical research.

Also, Dr. Antoine Duquette’s team is undertaking exome sequencing tests in some patients with ataxia being followed at the CHUM ataxia clinic in Montreal. “This approach has led to the identification of new genes associated with hereditary ataxias in different cohorts, as well as to a diagnosis for patients whose phenotype does not correspond to standard descriptions found in the literature and even to the identification of a genetic cause that is treatable in certain patients,” explains Dr. Duquette.

More news coming soon.

Keep up the good work!
